  • Our Mission

    Saffron Circle is a giving circle serving the Greater Boston Asian and Asian American community. Our members pool resources to provide critical support for non-profits, from established organizations to emerging programs. We seek to fund initiatives that will leverage our contributions and positively impact the Asian community.

    Founded in 2006, Saffon Circle is one of the nation's oldest Asian American giving circles.

  • 2017 Grantees

    Asian-American Women's Political Initiative

    $10,000 grant to support its State House Fellowship program providing intensive legislative training and mentorship opportunities for college-aged Asian-American women ages 18 to 24 years old

    Cambodian Mutual Assistance Association of Lowell

    $5,000 grant to support its After School Youth Program which provides free after school academic, social, cultural and recreational activities for at risk youth

    Josiah Quincy Orchestra Program

    $1,000 grant to support Mandarin translation services for the music education program that serves 160 children at Josiah Quincy Elementary and Upper Schools in Chinatown

  • Join Saffron Circle

    As a Saffron Circle member, you are welcome to participate in the grantmaking process and help transform the Greater Boston Asian community.


    You can join Saffron Circle with an annual tax-deductible contribution of $250. An introductory membership level of $100 per year is also available for students and young professionals. 100% of your proceeds will be paid directly to grantee organizations.


    Saffron Circle is a fee-waived, donor-advised fund at The Boston Foundation. We are a member of the AAPIP National Giving Circle Network.

  • Apply for a Grant


    Saffron Circle grants generally range from $5,000-10,000. Saffron Circle grants will also target collaborative models, organizations/projects that directly engage members of Asian communities to create change in their community, and new and emerging agencies.


    The funding foci of 2018 are:

    • Health and Environment (improving physical, mental, and social well-being, as well as aspects of the natural and built environment that affects human health)
    • Civic Engagement (voter engagement,  education and registration activities)
    • Placemaking (revitalizing underutilized spaces through public art and/or community activities)


    Saffron Circle's grantee application process will begin in May 2018, with applications due by June 8, 2018. Members meet throughout the months of May and June with decisions made by the end of June.


    Saffron Circle funds non-profit organizations serving Asian and Asian American communities in Massachusetts. For non-Asian organizations, funds will only be rewarded for programs directly related to serving Asians or Asian Americans. Eligible organizations must be located in Massachusetts and tax-exempt (either 501(c)(3) or 501(c)(3)-sponsored).


    Saffron Circle does not make grants to individuals, scholarships/fellowships, programs with religious purposes, political parties/candidates, government organizations, or building campaigns.
